Between 1 July 2018 and 31 May 2019, Australia accepted more than 132,000 citizenship requests. The number is really high related to 70,000 applications that were accepted during the corresponding period in the previous year. Australia citizenship approvals rose by 88% during the preceding year, states the report.
Immigration Minister of Australia, David Coleman credits this rise in citizenship approvals to the changes implemented by the Home Affairs Department, Australia. These improvements involved setting up task forces to deal with complex citizenship cases and improved online systems with automatic processes to customize the process of application. Besides, the government of Australia invested $9 million to hire and train additional staff for assuring more effective citizenship applications processing.
The current reforms have transpired in a backlog of Australia citizenship appeals coming down from 250,000 in the previous year to approximately 222,800 in the current year. It is assumed to decrease further in the future. The Home Affairs Department has also announced that the processing time for 75 percent of the appeals has come down from the previous 20 months in 2019 April to 16 months in 2019 June.
However, notwithstanding the reduction in wait time and increase in the number of approvals, the Australia citizenship applications number remaining for approval is still over 200000. The rise in the number of citizenship approvals and a decrease in the applications processing time has given more courage and hope to potential Australian immigrants.
