Rural and Northern Pilot

New immigrants and temporary immigrant workers in Canada may have the chance to apply for Canada PR in Vernon, British Columbia Province.

Vernon became the 4th community to allow applications by the Rural & Northern Immigration Pilot (R.N.I.P) on 1 February 2020. The program will be accessible till February 2022.

The below communities are now allowing applications through this immigration pilot:

  • Altona/Rhineland, Province of Manitoba
  • Brandon, Province of Manitoba
  • Sault Ste. Marie, Province of Ontario
  • Vernon, Province of B.C.

The pilot was designed to connect international workers with Canadian firms from communities facing labor deficits. Applicants need an eligible full-time offer of a job in a participating community.

Totally 11 communities are included in this program. Below is the list of communities that yet to start allowing applications.

  • North Bay, Province of Ontario
  • Sudbury, Province of Ontario
  • Timmins, Province of Ontario
  • Thunder Bay, Province of Ontario
  • Moose Jaw, Province of Saskatchewan
  • Claresholm, Province of Alberta
  • West Kootenay (Castlegar, Trail, Nelson, Rossland), Province of British Columbia

Applying for Canada PR through Vernon

To qualify for the Rural & Northern Immigration Pilot (R.N.I.P) in Vernon, applicants must first satisfy federal Eligibility Criteria. Vernon needs that applicants have a Canadian Language Benchmark (C.L.B) of level 5 or higher in the language of English or language of French. All applicants must finish a candidate profile on the specific city’s web page.

Applicants are ranked on Vernon Comprehensive Ranking Score (VCRS). Much like the Express Entry system, applicants are given a score depends on several human capital parameters. Vernon’s system comprises in its scoring grid that the applicant's capability to integrate and live in the community.

Once the federal and also community eligibility requirements are met, profiles will be kept in the pool. A committee will allow applicants up to the closing day of every month. The committee will give 10 recommendations for every month to applicants who best match the community requirements based on the ranking system of Vernon.

Vernon is authorized to give 100 recommendations per year of the pilot. Applicants require having an offer of a job with an hourly wage of minimum $25 per hour to qualify. There is an opportunity for individuals currently working, studying, or living in Vernon to avoid wage demand.

Applicants applying from overseas must finish a 15 to 30-minute interview through video-conference. Those who are presently in the community may require attending an in-person interview, at the discretion of the committee.
