Ontario Gives Preference to Express Entry Applicants with Tech Experience
The Ontario Government has announced its plans for choosing Express Entry applicants with work experience in the tech sector for Canadian PR.

Ontario had earlier announced that it would produce a committed stream for tech workers. Rather, it will conduct targeted draws for Federal Express Entry applicants with skilled work experience in the 6 tech-related professions by its current Human Capital Priorities Stream.

Eligible applicants for the 3 economic immigration programs are accessed into the pool of Express Entry where they are given a rank depends on the scores granted below the Comprehensive Ranking System (C.R.S.). A applicants C.R.S. score depends on factors that involve education, age, proficient work experience, and ability in French or English.

Ontario is the most attractive destination for current permanent residents of Canada, along with those admitted by the Federal Express Entry system. In 2018, 65% of the latest immigrants granted through Canadian Express Entry had given Ontario province as their destination.

To be recognized for an invitation by an Ontario PNP tech draw, applicants must first produce an Express Entry profile.

Tech Draws will Match Business Needs

Ontario is presently facing a deficit of tech workers, which is a little high compared to the rest of Canada. It is expected that up to 220,000 highly skilled workers will be required in Canada’s Communication and Information Technology sector by 2021.

The O.I.N.P uses its Stream Human Capital Priorities to explore the Express Entry pool for applicants who match designated federal and provincial requirements.

Ontario PNP tech draws will explore the Express Entry pool for qualified applicants with work experience in one of six focused occupations:

  • Computer and information systems managers (NOC 0213)
  • Database analysts and data administrators (NOC 2172)
  • Web designers and developers (NOC 2175)
  • Computer engineers (NOC 2147)
  • Computer programmers and interactive media developers (NOC 2174)
  • Software engineers and designers (NOC 2173)

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program said the 6 occupations reflect present needs in Ontario and were chosen based on discussions with organizations and other stakeholders over the province.

The Stream Human Capital Priorities does not need an employment offer and has a history of inviting Federal Express Entry applicants with C.R.S. scores that haven’t been sufficient for an I.T.A. in one of the Canadian government’s normal Express Entry draws.

Express Entry applicants chosen by the Ontario PNP will obtain a Notification of Interest from the O.I.N.P and have 45 days to appeal for a Ontario provincial nomination.
