The initiative was proclaimed by Navtej Sarna, who is the new Indian emissary to the US, in his inaugural address to Indian Americans at a gathering in his honor, organized by the community last month.
Corresponding open houses have now been organized at different Indian consulates in the US -- Atlanta, New York, Houston, San Francisco and Chicago.
The embassy & its consulates shall hold such comparable open houses in their locations each fortnight.
In Washington, in spite of short notices and poor weather issues on Wednesday, various applicants showed up for the event. Each applicant’s concerns were attended to personally, by superior officers of the consular wing.
Except for personal grievances, many different issues and general queries were responded to as well, by the embassy’s officials.
