Alberta Immigration Announces New Opportunity Stream

Having the name of Opportunity Stream, a new immigration stream has been announced by the Immigration authorities in Alberta which is a Canadian province. Applications in it will be accepted from 2nd, January 2018 under the Alberta Immigrant Nomination Program.

It is designed to provide a pathway for foreign workers working in Alberta to get a PR in Canada. Similar to other AINP streams, this will be regarded as the base Provincial Nominee Program Stream, where the applications will be processed out of the Federal Express Entry Selection System. All Successful applicants in it will get a provincial nomination, which can be used to apply for getting PR Status.

This stream has been framed to replace the two existing AINP streams of Employer-Driven stream and Strategic Recruitment stream. Applications under the present streams will be accepted and processed till the Opportunity stream comes into force.

Applicants to this stream need a job offer from an Alberta based employer. The job offer need not be in a skilled occupation, and occupations listed in the National Occupational Classification skill levels 0, A, B, C, and D are eligible.

Applicants need a valid temporary resident status while applying. They should not be living/working in any other province/territory apart from Alberta. Applicants who are not working in a LMIA supported job must obtain an exemption for workers under international trade agreements, transferees within a company, or participants of International Experience Canada based on the norms set by IRCC

Applicants must possess English/French ability of Canadian Language Benchmark 4, which is a recognized test by the government of Alberta. From January 2019, the scores required for English and French language skills test will be revised to CLB 5 in both languages. A high language ability threshold of CLB 7 has been kept for nurse aides, orderlies and patient service associates as listed in NOC 3413.

The applicants must complete high school level education. Applicants who have studied out of Canada must obtain an Educational Credential Assessment from an authority recognized by the government.

Applicants are required to possess 12 months full-time work experience in their present job in Alberta within the previous 18 months, or 24 months full-time work experience in their present job in Canada or abroad also within 30 months. Its compilation is based on a combination of experience in Alberta, in other provinces or abroad also.

All the applicants must meet the income threshold, based on their family as under:
